A Place of Healing – A Voice of Hope.

Alyssa’s Story of Hope & Healing

I was with a man who was abusive. When we got married, everything was perfect. But he became aggressive when I was pregnant with our son. He would get mad, yell and eventually hit me. He continued to physically hurt me, so I thought about leaving. Where would we go? Who would help me raise my baby? I stayed, and the abuse became worse. He started hitting me in spots where no one could see the bruises. I knew I had to leave when I was rushed to the emergency room with many broken bones. My friend picked me up and helped me contact emergency shelters. After my stay in the shelter, my case manager contacted Lydia’s House, and they had an open apartment.
“I knew I had to leave when I was rushed to the emergency room with many broken bones.”
“When I left my abuser, I left with only my baby and the clothes on my back.”
When I arrived at Lydia’s House, I couldn’t believe it! They gave me my own apartment that I could call home. When I left my abuser, I left with only my baby and the clothes on my back. We did not have much, but thankfully Lydia’s House provided us with everything we would need to restart our lives. My advocate helped me apply for jobs, and because of that I was able to save enough money to buy my own car! Thanks to Lydia’s House, my baby boy and I now have a safe place to live. I am so thankful for Lydia’s House!
